NEW DELHI: Sachin Tendulkar is excited that the high-profile Formula One race is coming to the country with the inaugural Indian Grand Prix next week and said that he will support the Sahara Force India team.
“I am excited about Indian Grand Prix F1 race. I will support the Force India team. I have friends like Michael Schumacher but I will support Force India because that is the Indian team and country comes first,” Tendulkar said.
Tendulkar, who is passionate about fast cars, has been invited by Formula One boss Bernie Ecclestone himself to grace the Indian Grand Prix at Greater Noida on October 30.
“I was passionate about cars from a young age. As I grew up, my passion for fast cars has grown,” he said.
On which car fascinated him as a child, he said “when I was young I saw these Fiat, Ambassador, at the most Contessa or Standard 2000. But my brother and others would discuss about Pala car.”
“So, the car I love to drive was Pala,” he said.
Tendulkar witnessed his first F1 Grand Prix at Silverstone in England while he was on the 2002 tour to England and met German legend Michael Schumacher the evening before the race day.
In fact, it was Schumacher who presented him with the keys of the Ferrari car which Tendulkar sold to a businessman from Surat recently.
On the upcoming Indian Grand Prix, Tendulkar said it would be a wonderful experience for the Indians to witness a Formula One race.
“It’s an incredible feeling for F1 fans. I have always waited for a Grand Prix in India. It will be wonderful for all Indians as it will give them a real life experience of the event. We have watched it on TV, but watching it in real life is different”, he said.
“It will also be a great opportunity for young drivers to meet their heroes. It’s a great platform for them. It will give them an opportunity to get to know the drivers”, he said.
Tendulkar also recalled how he gradually developed an interest in fast vehicles since his childhood as he watched the cars go by from the balcony of his residence in Mumbai.
On ace Indian driver Narain Karthikeyan, Tendulkar said “He is a brilliant driver. I have actually driven with him. I then realised how skillful these guys are. I wish him all the luck”, he added.

NOIDA: The Gautam Budh district administration has decided to hike the circle rates of property by 25 to 30 per cent from November. All properties will be registered according to the new circle rates from November 1 onwards.
While the circle rates for residential, group housing, institutional and commercial properties will be increased by around 22 to 25 per cent, the industrial sector will witness an increase of 32.5 per cent. The district magistrate will hold a final meeting in this regard at the end of this week. “The administration decided that it was essential to raise the circle rates in the district as property prices have increased considerably. The new circle rates will come into effect from next month,” said Sarvajeet Ram, additional district magistrate (finance), Gautam Budh Nagar.
The new rates have been arrived at on the basis of the current allotment rates of property and land in Noida and Greater Noida, said V D Sharma, DIG (Stamps). The hike has been proposed to bridge the gap between the current real estate prices and offered circle rates in the sectors. “Hike in circle rates will discourage people from buying and selling property below the market price because the proposed circle rate will cover the gap between the present circle price and its market value,” Sharma added.
The decision to increase the circle rates in the two cities had been under consideration since July this year and the administration has finally decided to revise the circle rates in Noida, Greater Noida, Dadri and Jevar. The last hike in circle rates in the district was implemented in 2010. The circle rate was hiked between 15 and 20 per cent at that time.
Circle rate is the minimum rate at which stamp duty is charged on transaction of a property. It is rampant practice for many property sellers and buyers to declare the value of transaction at a lower rate to get away with a lesser stamp duty payment. This leads to a huge loss in revenue for authorities and, thus, the same is revised depending on the prevailing market rates.

NOIDA: A proposal for the development of Noida as an International Finance Technology City (NIFT) on the lines of Tokyo, Shanghai, Paris and London, has been prepared and sent to the state government of Uttar Pradesh by the Assocham. The proposed city could generate additional 1.2 million direct and indirect job opportunities by the year 2020 in identified areas with growing infrastructure like the DND toll bridge, Metro connectivity, projected international airport, the Yamuna Expressway and export processing zone.
A survey conducted by the industry body in many north Indian cities has revealed that Noida is best suited to be a NIFT city due to large tracts of developed infrastructure, good communication network and a large pool of qualified and trained workers. “The study has been submitted to Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mayawati. We have laid particular emphasis on the concept of NIFT city in line with several big cities of the world,” said secretary general of Assocham, D S Rawat. “This model will create over a million new jobs, spur economic growth in India and make the UP exchequer richer by increase in 10 per cent of the state GDP,” added Rawat.
The industry body has offered expertise of its international constituent experts to the state government for the development of NIFT. The sectors, which are promising in particular for development of NIFT, include financial services operations, IT services, capital markets and trading, ITeS, and BPO and KPO services. “Transforming Noida into such a city will also help the state government to further identify and develop new satellite townships,” said Rawat.
“Noida has been planned on the grid iron concept and employs modern technology in engineering, urban planning and architecture. The city’s conceptualization is absolutely in tandem to meet the needs of a fast developing city of the future,” said Rawat.

From six coaches, the Delhi Metro is finally moving towards eight-coach trains. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) inked a deal on Monday to procure 76 coaches from Bombardier, the company which has already got 460 coaches operating on the Delhi Metro network till date. The 76 coaches will be used to commission the first eight-coach trains on the HUDA city centre-Jehnagirpuri corridor in May 2013.
The contract is valued at approximately 84 million euro ($120 million) and is a follow-on to the orders for 114 vehicles announced in mid 2010. Delivery will commence in the third quarter of 2012 and is expected to end in early 2013, a Bombardier spokesperson said.” The order will go a long way towards easing the expanding network of the Metro, which has been getting increasing complaints of over-crowding, especially on the Gurgaon line. The Gurgaon and Noida/Vaishali lines are the most crowded corridors and carry over 15 lakh people a day. Of the 76 coaches that are expected to be delivered by September 2012, 74 will be used to convert six and four coach trains into eight coach train sets. The other two will be used to convert a pending train set into a six coach train.
The USD 120 million order was placed recently by Delhi Metro, which is looking at a number of options to reduce over-crowding on its network, which now has a length of 185 km and 20 lakh ridership. The 76 coaches will be manufactured by Bombardier at its plant in Savli in Gujarat. Metro had earlier placed an order to procure 136 coaches from Mitsubishi-Rotem-Mitsubishi electrical and the delivery of the coaches will start in September 2012 and will be completed by December 2013.
Currently, Delhi Metro has four and six-coach trains. Delhi Metro is in the process of lengthening its four-coach Bombardier trains into sixcoach ones and 23 trains have already been inducted into its existing fleet. There are 69 trains on the Gurgaon line, of which 41 are six coach trains while the Dwarka-Vaishali/ Noida line has 65 trains of which 33 are six coach. The Mundka-Inderlok and Central Secretariat-Badarpur lines have only four coach trains. In total, Delhi Metro has a fleet of over 200 trains. Delhi Metro stations on the existing corridors have been designed in such a way that they can accommodate eightcoach trains, added a DMRC spokesperson.

Two major satellite cities of the national capital region — Gurgaon and Noida — will come close to each other in next five years.
With extension of Delhi Metro under proposed phase 3, the travel time between the two cities will come down remarkably to about 40-45 minutes from the existing 1 hour and 15 minutes.
“Currently, a Metro journey from Huda City Centre in Gurgaon to Botanical Garden in Noida takes about one hour 15 minutes with the interchange at the highly congested Rajiv Chowk station. After completion of phase 3, travel time between the two cities would reduce to 45 minutes,” said an official of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC).
The proposed Janakpuri West-Botanical Garden corridor (35 km) will have interchange facility at Hauz Khas Metro station of Line 2 (Jahangirpuri-Huda City Centre). So the passengers coming from Gurgaon can get down at Hauz Khas and take a direct train to Botanical Garden. This corridor is expected to be operational by 2016, said DMRC officials.
“This arrangement will benefit thousands of Metro commuters, especially the office goers who travel between Gurgaon and Noida daily,” said Anuj Dayal, DMRC spokesperson.
The existing Hauz Khas Metro station will be turned into an interchange station to facilitate this connectivity.
A road journey between the two cities takes about 1.5 hours as the commuters have to traverse through the congested streets of Delhi.
Absence of direct autos and infrequent bus services further add to the inconveniences of the people. A huge portion of them would start commuting by Metro once the proposed corridor becomes functional, expects Delhi Metro.
About 1,70,000 passengers are expected to use the interchange Hauz Khas Metro station by 2016, as per the project report. Currently, the footfall at Hauz Khas is approximately 40,000. The total number of halts or stations on the way from Gurgaon to Noida will also decrease.
